Auction #199 - Part II
Item numbers 973 through 2378 in auction 199
Item Description
1.25” exceedingly rare button in the series of various different sets naming a sponsoring newspaper and generally issued to promote the concept of a “Safety Club.” This example has W&H backpaper and is from the 1930s reading “Altoona Tribune/Be Careful/Safety Club.” Pictured is young girl character with hair bow and holding a doll. We are pretty certain the artwork is by Fontaine Fox and that she appeared in his comic strip. Couple shallow pinpoint rub indents exceedingly trivial and just showing a trifle in reflected light. Exc. and still displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen. Rare.
