One of 2 designs from 1941 produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island and used by dairies participating in the Superman Defense Club milk program. Ring top features various initials of milk company sponsor, in this case a letter “B.” Below the initial is a diagonal lightning bolt and below that an eyeball surrounded by accent lines. The brass plate snaps off from the base and the underside of the snap-off piece holds a paper sticker picturing and reading “Superman.” As typical with nearly all examples, this has some wear. The image has slightest trace of tan tone on the right side and the furthest two strokes of the final letter “N” of his name are there but really only detectable with magnification. The rest of his name and image are easily visible and actually much better condition than many known examples. The top of the snap-off piece shows luster loss with these areas browner in tone than the brighter gold luster still covering most of the bkg. areas. The upper .25” or so on each side of the ring base retains vast majority of luster but the lower two-thirds where the prongs begin to narrow have little luster remaining but with clean, darker brass toned surfaces. The owner of this ring wants it sold and thus the opening bid is exceedingly low compared to the ring’s rarity and value track record.
