Item Description
20x19.5”. Cotton. A very difficult to acquire jugate bandanna as this is one of only two jugate designs pictured in the reference Threads Of History by Collins. Text below the portrait reads “Gen. Winfield S. Hancock/Democratic Nominee For President/1880” and “Hon. William H. English/Democratic Nominee For Vice President/1880.” Four eagle designs near the corners with ribbon inscription “E. Pluribus Unum” and above each shield the accent reads “In Union Is Strength.” Couple of small tan marks on the Hancock image (about .25” area on cheek, forehead and rear edge of hair) plus a few small spots on right bkg. and minor tone on his shirt. English image is 97% clean. No tears and no fade with deep turkey red coloration. Tiny text on lower right names maker as “Washington S.H. Greene & Sons.” Overall VF and much nicer than the typical condition for a bandanna of this vintage.
