Item Description
11x14”. Cardboard standee. Upper center shows hat insignia reading “El Libertador 26/Freedom Fighter.” This refers to the 26th of July Movement which was the revolutionary organization planned and led by Fidel Castro that in 1959 over-threw the Fulgencio Batista government in Cuba. The movement’s name originated from the failed attack on the Moncada barracks, an Army facility in the city of Santiago de Cuba on Jul. 26, 1953. The movement was re-organized in Mexico in 1955 by a group of 82 exiled revolutionaries including Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro. Bottom text reads “10 Percent Of Mfrs. Profit Goes To Cuban Rebel Relief & Widows Fund.” 2” archival tape repair at top center. Noticeable aging. Lt. center crease. Although lightly soiled, red accents retain a day-glo brilliance. Standee back appears unused. Ironic concept given the decades of animosity between the US/Cuban governments. Only one known to us. Rare. VG.
