Item Description
Elsie began as a 1930s cartoon cow promoting Borden’s products. Much to the company’s surprise, they discovered fair goers attending the automated milking of cows by machines had one primary question on their mind “Which Cow Is Elsie?” Up to that time, Elsie was merely in the cartoons so quickly the company settled on a friendly big-eyed Jersey named “You’ll Do Lobelia” and she was re-christened as “Elsie.” By the time the Fair closed, Elsie was it’s #1 attraction. This group consists of a string holding a figural white plastic charm with her name below. This was a giveaway. The second piece is a large highly-detailed and embossed brass badge bearing her name and picturing her with 5 daisy flowers around her neck. This 2.25” piece does not reference the Fair but was most likely available for purchase there. It is the most impressive and among the earliest of the small-sized Elsie collectibles. Very tiny luster loss. Exc. Charm is Mint. Pair.
