Item Description
Unlike the Macy’s pre-printed form letters (see item #2451), this is of a personal nature typed to a specific recipient. We have only offered one other of this rare typed variant back in Auction #173 (April 2003) where it sold for $2,321. That letter was dated Dec. 26, 1940 and was in reference to “Job Re-Assignments.” This letter is Nov. 19, 1940 issued to Josef Kleinkauf from Deborah Knapp in reference to “Extension Of Complimentary Tickets Acceptance.” Letter notes that based on the “Success Of Last Saturday’s Opening” the acceptance of “Complimentary” passes is to be extended through Nov. 23rd. Additional text reads “With Less Than 500 Tickets So Distributed And That Almost Half Were Honored Opening Day, Mr. Fine Agrees That Even If The Maximum Number Possible To Be Presented Were, It Would Generate No Problems Extending Their Valid Dates.” Letterhead design includes full figure image of Superman at top right while at bottom is “S” symbol along with participating sponsors of “Superman Inc./Journal American/WOR Radio 710/Leader Novelty.” Extremely minor wear from handling but exceptionally clean and Exc./N. Mint and has not been folded. See following item #2453.
