Item Description
6.75x9.5” catalogue #59 from 1943. Issued to wholesalers and jobbers and as cover states, features “4,000 Money-Makers.” Primarily filled with general merchandise such as household goods, novelties, clothing, jewelry, etc. but with a nice selection of pop culture-related memorabilia throughout including numerous WWII homefront related items. Cover theme also is war related, back cover features victory themed punch board. Other war-related items include: war stamps and ration book covers, Mac Arthur book, Victory plant ball, plaques, patriotic-Roosevelt and McArthur pillow tops, patriotic clock, stickers, decals, car emblems/attachments, banners, many different buttons and pins. Character & other items include: Charlie McCarthy talking greeting card, Mickey Mouse pencil box, Pinocchio bisque, Zephyr novelty clock lamp, dolls, animal wind-up toys, Fisher-Price pull toys including Pinocchio and Donald Duck, magic tricks, Dick Tracy Detecto Kit. The most interesting item is an ad for the rare Superman Syroco-style wood composition figure. This is shown along with similar soldier and sailor statuettes noting they were available for 35¢ each, $3.95 a dozen and $45.00 a gross. However, given the rarity of the Superman figure it is safe to say the catalogue company never had the inventory to fill the orders. Catalogue has moderate cover wear, small corner piece missing from front cover. Contents tanned with age but clean. Small trace of moisture staining to top and bottom margins of back cover and last few pages but overall still a Fine copy. Additional photos online.
