Item Description
13/16” tall with vertical pin on back and maker’s text “Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark, N.J.” Front displays the company initials “GMG Co.” around finely detailed images of what we believe are the Gibson Style O guitar and a Model F Gibson mandolin which were introduced in 1903 which is consistent with this pin’s style of manufacturing. The company started by Orville Gibson dates back to 1894 and this is likely the first pin ever issued. We’ve seen nothing else in the way of a pin or button for this famous instrument maker in 44 years of specializing in small collectibles. N. Mint and displays Mint. See banjo pencil sharpener #524.
