Item Description
This is the first vintage Sunbonnet Babies wearable small collectible we have ever seen. The characters were introduced in 1900 in the book The Sunbonnet Babies. The author was Eulalie Grover and the illustrator was Bertha Corbett. Characters trademark feature are faces completely hidden by sunbonnets. Their immediate success lead to many books, many post card designs and even a line of children’s dishes by Royal Bayreuth. This 1” lapel stud beautifully depicts a pair of the babies on a yellow pathway surrounded by green foliage. They are over-printed by the company initials “H&M” and the rim text reads “37th Annual Convention Heath & Milligan Mfg. Co. 1904-1905.” This company was an early Chicago firm which quickly arose from the ashes of the devastating fire to become a leading maker of paint and related products. Around 1920 the company became part of the Glidden (paints) Corporation. A beautiful, rare and essentially Mint character collectible.
