Item Description
Many different Mickey tea sets were produced in Japan in the 1930s, this is one of the scarcer varieties with some slightly different shaped pieces and rather than coming in a generic box as most did, this comes in box illustrated with Mickey and Minnie images. Box is 11x13x3.5” deep. Partial label on one side notes distributor Borgfeldt. Superb small images repeated over entire surface of box lid and 4 side panels depict Mickey behind a camera, standing at microphone, painting, hunting, playing piano, flying a kite, serving tea, jumping rope, as a pirate with Minnie on a raft, etc. Box complete with insert. Box has trace of aging, lid has corner wear (3 with tape repairs). Box bottom remains tight. Box is Fine. This is a 20-piece, 6-serving set, missing just 1 of the 6 tea cups. The 3.5” teapot with lid, 2.5” tall sugar with lid and 2” tall creamer are all matching variety with more bulbous body than those typically found. Each features image of Mickey serving tea, expanded image on teapot also depicts Minnie seated at a table. The cups, saucers and plates have 6 different images which are Mickey as server, playing hockey, carrying mail; Minnie seated on a fence, reading a letter, walking with umbrella. Missing cup is one with image of Minnie on fence. Set has a bright and glossy appearance with nice iridescent accent paint. Exc.
