Item numbers 1187 through 2776 in auction 200
Item Description
1.25” with no maker’s name or backpaper as issued. Button depicts stylishly-dressed woman with broad brimmed hat. The only thing we have found on her was a brief few paragraphs from the New York Times of 8/13/1897. Hosmer was playing the character “Trilby” in a Chicago play at Hopkin’s Theater. Articles headlines are “Trilby’s Narrow Escape/Miss May Hosmer Stunned By A Falling Scene In Chicago.” Text relates how a stage man pushing a large heavy scene ran into a bump and it fell striking Miss Hosmer “With Force Enough To Stun Her, But She Was Not Seriously Interested.” Photocopy of the short article comes along. Hake book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons photo example Theater section #1009. Comes with Hake’s COA. Only one we’ve seen and Exc.
