Item Description
11.5x16.5x1.5” deep celluloid over wood tray with woven wicker edge. Marked “This Tray Was Made By A St. Dunstan’s War-Blinded Man.” c. 1930-1931. Disney provided the cello panel and veterans then did the wicker work to make pocket money. There are 8 classic images of Mickey, all with titles and these are “Mickey-Himself, Mickey Leads The Band, Hello Mickey Greets You All, Poor Little Mickey – Sad And Forlorn, Mickey Makes Some Music, Mickey And His Saxophone, Just A Song At Twilight, Mickey Plays The Drum.” In between these images are additional illustrations of him with a kewpie-like baby and Mickey is shown feeding, washing, snuggling and playing with the baby. Extreme border of cello panel has some moisture staining more so on right/left sides but no more than about .5” at its widest point. Images are in no way affected by this. However, there is a 1” dia. moisture stain to top left image of Mickey with drum with an additional .25” celluloid flake to the border of the image, not affecting Mickey directly. Couple of other tiny moisture spots and scattered trace of surface wear, mostly only visible in reflected light. Still retains a nice appearance for display and remains VG/Fine overall. We know of only about 6 of these and this is only the third we’ve offered in our 44 years (the previous 2 examples both sold for $500+). Superb images.
