Item Description
10x16x1.5” deep box contains nearly complete set ©1939 by Knapp of Indianapolis. Same principle and design as similar sets/figures by Jaymar but obviously this never caught on the way the Jaymar items did as this rare set is the first we’ve seen in our 44 years. Great lid art depicting Geppetto assembling these wood figures. Characters shown are Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro and a donkey. Box has obvious wear and aging. Split along entire right edge and tape repairs. Additional edge wear with surface paper rubs/flakes and corner splits with tape repairs. Box retains strong color, Good. Has insert designed to hold the pieces and nicely illustrated showing “Geppetto” shop and street scene with other buildings. Insert has some lt. edge wear but VF. Pieces are primarily wood, faces have painted features, few additional pieces are die-cut cardboard. Designed to make figures of Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro, donkey and Cleo. Wood parts include large assortment of “Arm, Leg, Tail, Joint” so figures have movable body parts when assembled. Set appears to be missing just one of Jiminy’s shoes. There are slots for 3 Pinocchio noses, 2 remain intact on insert, third is inserted into Pinocchio’s head. Cardboard pieces have some lt. wear/creases. Wood pieces have small scattered traces of aging but overall set remains VF. Great design.
