8.5x11” typed letter on “CBS News” letterhead is dated Aug. 30, 1956 with headline reading “Elvis Presley, The Vagabonds, Dorothy Sarnoff, Amru Sani, Guests On ‘The Ed Sullivan Show,’ Sunday, September 9.” Letter announces Presley’s appearance on Sullivan’s “Toast Of The Town” segment. This was the first of 3 appearances by Elvis on “The Ed Sullivan Show” and was watched by an estimated 54 million people (a third of the US population at that time). Elvis performed “Don’t Be Cruel, Love Me Tender, Ready Teddy, Hound Dog.” N. Mint.
