Item Description
New Haven Watch Co. .75x2.5x3" thin cardboard box has text "Popeye Watch/Copyright King Features Syndicate, Inc." 1-7/8" dia. nickel finished pocket watch has detailed dial picturing many characters around sides including Ham Gravy, Wimpy, Professor Wottasnozzle and more. Images alternate with designs of triangles which surround the numerals. Popeye's die-cut arms with bold anchor designs and hands with pointing fingers tell the time while below his spread legs is a second wheel showing full figure of Wimpy chasing a hamburger accented by a tiny pair of wings as if it is flying from his grasp. Box lid has one side panel expertly crafted and replaced. Rest of lid is original. Bottom is total replacement. Watch has scattered trace of wear to case but most luster remains. Small trace of wear to dial only noticeable upon close inspection. Running. VF. Wonderful design with choice graphics. From the Jerry Howell Jr. Collection.
