Item Description
11.75x14.75x1.75” deep window box contains gun and target set by Tada. c. 1966. Exclusive to the Japanese market. Set consists of 8” long tin litho double-barrel, spring-loaded gun and three 4.5” long rubber-tipped suction safety darts (missing one though not visible as boxed). Set comes with 4 targets standing 4” – 4.75” tall consisting of plastic dome base and cardboard targets depicting Batman villains The Joker, The Penguin and The Riddler as well as Japanese gangster. One of the only Japanese items from the 1960s to include 3 of Batman’s best-known villains, as they did not adapt well to the Japanese sensibilities. Insert has tiny .5” dia. Batsymbol sticker. Gun shows wear with trace of oxidation on underside of barrel but remains tied to insert as issued. VF/Exc. Rest of set contents are N. Mint as issued. Box has image of Batman and Robin with Batsymbols on each side panel. Underside has bw image of Batman and Robin as well as original Japanese price sticker. Box shows moderate aging/wear with pair of 1.75” tears to side panels of lid. Archival tape repair to interior of 1.5” tear. Original cellophane window has come slightly loose at lower left but box retains its shape. VG. Gun works. One of only 2 examples our consignor has seen, this being the actual example shown in “Bat-Manga” by Pantheon Books. From the Saul Ferris Collection.
