Item Description
Bank is 2-1/8” dia. by 11/16” thick. All text is in German except the location “St. Joseph, Mich.” On the front of the bank with his portrait, the text translates roughly to “The Most Beautiful Monuments To Luther Are Lutheran Churches And Schools.” Various slogans on the reverse roughly translate to “A Savings Bank To Save My Funds For My God/The Kirchbaukasse Is My Protestant Lutheran Church/The 400th Anniversary Of The Reformation On 31 October 1917.” Other than trivial loss of silver flashing from the tin side edge, the piece is N. Mint and displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen. From the Morry Greener Collection.
