Item Description
Sheppard Field was dedicated Oct. 17, 1941 with its first graduating class Feb. 23, 1942. During WWII the facilities provided extensive aviation training and in 1945 served as a separation center for troops being discharged reaching its peak strength of 46, 340 people. This 1.75” button reads “Welcome Sheppard Field Jubilee Oct. 17-18.” While one of these dates matches the official dedication date, this seems to be a reunion button from some time in the 1950s. Noticeable tan stain on the right-hand side and edges but still with full gloss. Rare local issue.
