Item Description
This firm in Manchester, NH was most famous for producing railway steam locomotives and in 1901 was joined with 7 other firms to found American Locomotive Co. This beautiful 1.25” portrays a steam-powered fire fighting apparatus with large spoked wheels accented in red. The front lanterns and boiler are accented in yellow. The vehicle chassis, driver’s seat and steering wheel plus hoses are accented in pale blue. Reverse has fancy designed W&H backpaper used only in 1898 and featuring the address of the plant division in Boston. We believe the equipment shown was known as the Amoskeag Steam Fire Engine. Exceedingly trivial and tiny depression at lower left but just a hair noticeable to the touch and the piece displays essentially Mint. We’ve seen only about 2 or 3 of these. Rare.
