Item Description
1.25” without backpaper or maker’s name and with a little heavier than usual oxidation on the reverse but yet with the cello in Exc. condition with just the very slightest hint of 3 pale tan marks on the rim, all under 1/16” and barely showing. Design includes exhibit title as well as Fair title and shows globe designating North and South American continents along with tiny text at top “North Pole” accented by tiny American flag. In this exhibit, the Atlantic liner “Discoverer,” some 200 ft. long and surrounded by water, included a costumed crew who pulled in the gang plank as the ship moved on the “ocean.” A storm at sea threatened sinking of the ship, but lifeboats were lowered and passengers ‘rescued’ by crews in rescue boats. Inside a theater, there was a journey through grinding icebergs, the Aurora Borealis appeared, there was cold air and a “dash” to the North Pole where the Stars and Stripes were raised. The Pole was depicted as a warm land with tropical vegetation, although all surrounded by ice. This adventure took place in 20 min. and cost an adult 25¢. Also see 1904 Expo stereo picturing Theodore Roosevelt’s cabin, item #54 and Swift’s 2-sided cello #542. Rare.
