Item Description
Hake’s Buttons In Sets book lists 252 seen of this extensive cigarette premium series. Of the 252 listed in the group, this group includes 95 different. Of those 95, about 30 show some staining. Most of the 95 have their W&H/Sweet Caporal Cigarette backpapers. In addition to the standard 95 buttons, some in this series were issued with metal covered backs rather than open backs. They came in 2 sizes, 7/8” and 15/16”. Included with the 95 is one of these with a filled back in the 7/8” size plus 17 more in the 15/16” size. In total, this group consists of 113 buttons. Some actresses were represented by as many as 3 different photographs. While many of these names are unknown today, there are some more well-known than others and in fact some of these ladies went on to appear in silent movies. Among those represented in this group are: Fanny Davenport, Della Fox (3 different), Loie Fuller, Lulu Glazer (3 different), Anna Held, Maud Jeffries, Frankie Kembel, Mable Love, Lillian Russell (2 different) and Fanny Ward. An extensive group of the earliest theatrical buttons ever issued.
