Item Description
c. 1920s. 7.5” wide by 7” tall tin litho with nice image of smiling Chaplin smoking cigar riding bicycle. Unlicensed, sold as Slippery Slim, attributed to the A.C. Gilbert Co. Bottom has a 6” long hanger wire holding the original 1-5/8” dia. round weight. Wheels are grooved to rest on a tight string and the figure has riveted joints at arms and legs allowing it to move as if peddling the toy as it moves across the string. Bit of wear to frame and coat on one side. Fine. Natural finished metal wheels are Exc. Comes with “Christie’s” Dec. 14, 1988 auction tag for sale #6729, lot #157. Great design.
