Item Description
This set was given to Walt Disney while traveling in Europe in the 1930s. Upon his return, he gave it to Charlotte Clark, the creator of the first Mickey Mouse doll. Charlotte later gave it to the son of her cousin who had young children. The item comes with a photocopy of a notarized statement by one of these children stating the set was given by Walt to Charlotte and then the family as well as Hake's COA. Also, see dolls made by Charlotte and background on Charlotte and her gifts to this family as items #2200-2212. Each of the 11 pieces has under the base an image of Mickey waving and the text "Mickey Mouse Trade Mark Authorized Registered By Walter E. Disney Made In Bavaria." There are four 5-1/8" plates with big images, two each, of Mickey and Minnie, plus four smaller images on the borders of Mickey, Minnie and/or Horace Horsecollar. One Minnie has large 7/16x1-1/16" long flake off top rim edge. The other 3 plates are perfect. There are four deep saucers for cups, each 4." The same characters are on the border. All 4 are perfect. There are no cups with the set. There is a creamer 3" tall by 2.5" wide. Spout has a significant chip 3/8" wide by 3/8" deep. Mickey walking image has 1/8" dot of black off one ear. Horace seated on a log is on the reverse. There is an earred sugar bowl 2" tall by 3" wide. Minnie is on each side. This is perfect, but there is only one lid which fits either this or the final item, a teapot. The teapot is 5" tall by 4.5" wide. Exterior is perfect. Only damage is on interior rim where the lid would rest and this has two areas with near hairline chips, one .25" long and one, a little deeper, .75" long. This has big image on reverse of Horace with blunderbuss while front has text names below the images of "Pluto-The Pup" and "Mickey Mouse." In the Bavarian series of china, these non-plate items are rare as are the four plates with large Mickey and Minnie images. A unique grouping once owned by Walt himself as well as the creator of the first Mickey doll, complete with documentation and Hake's COA.
