Item Description
This large group of 75 is from the company files of the Philadelphia firm Knox-Reese and spans the years 1947-1952. Included is an actual example of the glow-in-the-dark Roy Rogers Trick Lasso. The 5x10" sealed plastic bag is N. Mint and holds rope lasso plus 5x9" bw cardboard photo of Roy using the lasso. Also included is cardboard badge enclosed in stiff plastic w/bar pin on reverse. This reads "Roy Rogers Day-Barney's Boystown Wild West Show For The Damon Runyon Cancer Fund." Only example we've seen. Next is a group of 23 sheets, mostly 8.5x11". Eight of these were sent to retailers from "Rohr Co.-Sole Licensing Agents For The Use Of The Names Of Roy Rogers And Trigger" as part of their "Roy Rogers Corral" promotion. These sheets are three-hole punched for a notebook. Included is a list of 16 Roy Rogers product licenses, two order forms for premiums (RR Rider Cards, bronze coin, keychain, button, fan photo, etc.) and three sample ads - one small, one a 12x18" glossy sheet and the third is an 18x24" newsprint sheet. These last two are the same design. They show Roy and are folded to fit the 8.5x11" sheet they are glued to (as sent). The remaining 15 sheets relate to the Knox-Reese firm and promo their lasso and other Roy products. Included are five orange sheets from 1952 titled "Roy Rogers Trick Lasso Contest News," two different and one duplicate promote the lasso contest tie-in w/movie theater owners. Two other sheets have title but no text. Next are two bw company letterheads w/photo of Roy and two freight trucks w/"Roy Rogers Trick Lassos" and store names printed on the trailer side. Next are two identical bwr sheets showing Roy and promoting the lasso contest, next is glossy bw sheet showing wholesale prices and Roy Rogers counter display, next is bwr sheet showing lasso product and lasso contest seal design w/Roy image. Next is bw/green sheet to retailers promoting Roy horseshoe set. Also of note is glossy bw 10x15" ad mat sheet w/numerous Roy photos. Most sheets are Exc. A couple have small staple holes in one corner and minor creasing. Next are 53 glossy photos in three sizes. 30 photos (3.75x4.25") include young kids in western outfits and w/lassos. Some of these include an adult Indian. Ten in this group show company owner Dave Knox in western garb using lasso and in one he carries a Roy Rogers lasso standee while crossing a street in front of a children's store. Another 16 show children using lasso or document what seems to be a company party w/attendees in western wear. Five photos (5x7") show Dave Knox and another man in western garb holding or using the lasso. 18 photos (8x10") are product sheets or taken to document store promotional events. On eight of these Roy products are prominently featured and appear in the shot on five others. The remaining five show crowds outside or in stores and use of lassos. One great image shows six workers surrounded by lassos and Roy Rogers die cast boards as they assemble the countertop store standees. In this photo Roy's image appears six times. Overall VF. A great group of items documenting the promotion of one of Roy's most successful endorsed products. We are offering both the diecut mechanical standee and the 15x24" counter display along w/additional trick lasso in this auction. See following three items.
