Item Description
Black cardboard box 2x5x1" deep has 95% complete paper label on lid with title plus makers name reading "Manufactured by L. A. W. Novelty Co., Pub., Springfield, Mass." Company name is also initials of hugely popular bicyclist organization League of American Wheelman and adds evidence that this item is c. 1896 when both coffins and skeleton mechanical stick pins were made as McKinley and Bryan campaign novelties. This skeleton is made of thin and thicker white painted wire plus a molded composition skull. Nicely detailed with ribs, pelvis, fingers and long exaggerated foot "bones." A tiny original sting holds figure in the box. Box underside is designed as address label with place for a stamp. Underside of box has 3" edge split with 1" hairline tear into label. Lid has front panel pair of corner splits but all skirts remain attached to lid top. The skeleton itself is Exc. Only example we've seen.
