Item Description
5" dia. by 8.75" tall heavy plaster with quoted title words across the base's front. Above on tapered base are symbolic people and objects. Under the base is a 3.5" dia. blue on silver foil label. Because of rubs, this is only about 75% readable but a photocopy comes along from a different example so between the two we've figured out about 97% of the text which reads: President Franklin D. Roosevelt New Deal Program: As outlined on the base of this Miniature Portrait Bust, shows Capital and Labor being brought together through the President's blanket code and codes of various industries. The money back of the Capitalists represents the Government funds allocated for public works, etc. The partially constructed building back of the workman represents the construction work undertaken to relieve unemployment. The pine trees in the background represent the Reforestation program. Following to the right Transportation is shown which comes in for it's share of Government aid; Next is shown the Bank which represents the Bank Holiday; Deposit Insurance, etc.; Then the Manufacturing Plant and Brewery is shown; Oil Well which represents Conservation of Natural Resources; Muscle Shoals is shown; next is the World with the olive branch which represents effort towards World Peace; the small homes are shown representing Home Owners Loan etc; The Farmer is shown representing Farm Aid etc.; the Eagle is shown representing the different (missing words) and the Arrow represents the enforcement of the Codes. Manufactured by Plastic Art Studios, 80 Leslie street. Buffalo, N.Y.". A few scattered rubs to gold color reveal dark undercoat (as made) over the plaster. Numerous pin point size air bubble dots over the paint of his jacket as made. On left side of arm area is ©, hard to read name of artist and date of 1933. Unusual, well executed concept and rare.
