Item Description
26.5x28" overall high quality luxious mink c.early 1960s. Inside lining has 1.75" tall monogrammed “M”. Most likely custom made for Mansfield. Exceptionally well-cared for and retains like new N.Mint appearance. Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967) first appeared on stage in 1953 in Arthur Miller’s "Death of a Salesman". She was well educated and spoke five languages but she knew the public was more interested in her voluptous figure. She started out with bit parts in Warner Bros. films and enjoyed success on Broadway in 1955 acting in "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?". Her first starring role was in Frank Tashlin’s "The Girl Can’t Help It" in 1956 which also featured early rock & rollers including Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, and The Platters. She won a Golden Globe in 1957 for New Star of the Year for the film "The Wayward Bus". Her last major film was "Kiss Them For Me" in 1957. In 1957 she became the first mainstream American actress to appear nude with a starring role in the film "Promises! Promises!" In the early 1960s her and husband Mickey Hargitay headlined at the Dunes at Las Vegas. She died in an automobile accident at age 34. See following item #1867.
