Item Description
c.1950s. Three figures ranging in size from 3.5" tall to 4.25" tall, complete with plastic hoop earrings, beaded necklaces and thin copper bracelet on left arm along with 12" tall tree with fabric palm fronds. Each is ©Irene Nye on underside with number. Includes #200B, #205 with no spear or shield, #207, and #211 tree which is complete with single coconut. All are Exc. Figures are based on 1903 comic strip “A Tale of Jungle Imps by Felix Fiddle”, Winsor McCay’s first published comic strip. In the late 1930s, after McCay’s death, his son Winsor McCay Jr. revived the elder McCay’s characters. Ceramic artist Irene Nye, inspired by the characters popularity, created a series of glazed ceramic figures based on the Imps in the 1950s. Wonderful design and color with great detail. Scarce due to limited distribution. See following two lots #2234-2235.
