Item Description
August 1968 for event held by National Association of Television and Radio Announcers in Miami, Fl. 5.5x5.5x12.25" tall overall with gold accent metal microphone surrounded by rings atop walnut base with brass accent metal plaque with text on front. Tiny break at bottom of main ring where it connects to microphone base only visible upon close inspection. Base edge has tiny bit of wear but award is overall bright and VF. Gladys Knight won Ted Mack’s original Amateur Hour at the age of 7 in 1952 and the following year she started a singing group with her relatives called The Pips. They began to perform and tour in 1959 and scored their first hit in 1961 with “Every Beat Of My Heart”. She quit the group in 1962 to start a family but returned in 1964 in order to support her two children. They had a huge hit in 1967 with “I Heard It Through The Grapevine which sold 2.5 million copies and was Motown's biggest selling single ever at the time. Historical award, ready for display.
