Item Description
1950s by Bandai of Japan. 7x9.5x2" deep box has lid graphics of the toy on top. Lid surface has trace of lt. dust soil, four corner seams are split but box otherwise Fine. 2.5x7x9.75" tall tin litho toy is designed like a tree house with large cuckoo clock on top of platform. Under the platform is figure of boy with celluloid head, arms and legs with cloth shirt, sash and shorts on a swing next to a tree post with images of squirrel, birds, rabbit with foliage. Additional images of some of these characters appear on the sides of the clock. Clock face has numerals and cuckoo is bluebird next to extended feeding dish. Back of clock shows two elves with text “Bird Clock”. Platform base has busy lithography of leaves, flowers and mushrooms. Toy comes with a key and works. As boy swings, a bell rings and bird moves. Hands of the clock also rotate. Complete with original cardboard string tag noting how toy is to be wound. Tiny traces of wear, a few scattered pinpoint paint nicks but remains totally bright and glossy. Exc./N.Mint appearance. First example we have seen in our 45 years of this interesting toy made from the same molds as the Howdy Doody Clock-A-Doodle.
