Item Description
We've never seen another piece quite like this which consists of a 1.5" wide sheet of celluloid formed into a vertical oval with an opening about 1" wide by 1.75" tall, apparently designed to hold a napkin. The celluloid itself is held together by pair of notches on each end through which are inserted metal pieces looking like curved dumbbells or of the same concept as a lapel stud but each formed with balls on the end to serve as feet so the piece will stand upright. The top of the piece has a large horse head image while one side has address of Dover, New Hampshire firm with words "Turf Exchange/Ladies' & Gents' Gate." Opposite side explains the reason for two entrances as they state "We Carry A Full Line Of First Class Liquors." Very tiny rub on a couple of individual black letters but overall condition remains Exc. Early 1900's.
