Item Description
In 1930 a new product was introduced to the public, a doll in the likeness of Mickey Mouse. This was produced, much to the delight of Walt and Roy Disney, by Charlotte Clark. Due to its overwhelming success, a year later in 1931, Minnie joined Mickey in toy departments across the United States. The fascinating story of Mrs. Clark is fully explained in both the Disneyana book by Munsey as well as issue #2 of Tomart’s Disneyana Update. There were 3 standard sizes of dolls produced for retail sale by Charlotte Clark- 8.5”, 13.5” and 18” (this measurement is to the tops of their heads). The matched pair we are offering are the large 18" tall versions. Mickey is complete with string whiskers, oil cloth eyes, four mother-of-pearl buttons on pants and long tail. Minnie also has tail and eyes as well as a fragile flower which remains attached to hat and large quantity of the individual bristle eyelash accents remain. No string whiskers. Both have typical light aging including some age toning to faces. Mickey's right arm was at one point neatly resewn to his body, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Bit of edge wear to one eye. Minnie has trace of red color fade to skirt. Both still retain choice appearance for display and are overall VF, rarely found any nicer. From the Tomart Archives and comes with COA signed by Tom Tumbusch and Ted Hake. This exact pair was featured on the cover of Tomart's Disneyana Update #2 and comes with a copy of that magazine.
