Auction #202 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1553 in auction 202
Item Description
These items range from 1" to 2.25". The buttons are all celluloid with exception of Row 4 #3, next to last in Row 5, and last in Row 6. The earliest item is Row 1 #1 from 1912 and reading "National Bowling Ass'n Tournament Paterson, N.J." There are seven pieces referencing American Bowling Congress and these range from 1925 through 1939. There are numerous items referencing Women's International Bowling Congress and these are Row 3 #6, Row 4 #2, and 5 in the next to bottom row. The non-buttons are Row 1#2 & 4 cello badges, Row 3 brass badge from Cleveland 1939, Row 4 #1 metal ring from Chicago 1952, Row 4 #6 perpetual calendar for use from 1953 through 1980 and five medals in the third row up from the bottom beginning with the one on a leather strap dated for 1924 and reading "'Met' Championships Recreation Alleys." Next are a pair of medals on dark blue ribbon badges. Each shows a man in the act of bowling and the front of one of these includes an engraved masonic symbol. Engraved on the back of the first is "High 3 Games 1933" and on the second "High Two Games 1934." The next medal again shows a bowler and has bar pin on reverse of the rwb fabric. This is engraved on the back "B.P.B.L. 1936 High Score." The last medal shows ball and pins on front below the word "Champions." Fabric has reverse pin and reverse medal reads "C.F.U. 1945-46" with tiny mark indicating this is gold filled. Also of special note is Row 3 #2 for 1936 button which includes both American and German flag with a swastika surrounded by text "Joe Thum Sport Club" and outer ring "5th International Bowling Tournament Berlin, July 22-26, 1936." An incredible collection spanning the sport's 20th century history. Great condition with only a few that show any traces of wear.
