Item Description
Exquisitely hand-decorated porcelain sculpture atop wooden base has impressive overall size of 10.5x14x9" tall. Sculpted by Enzo Arzenton. He first started producing sculptures for the Laurenz Disney Collection in 1983 and continued to do so until he retired in 1999, production on all Disney pieces then ceased. This piece was first released in 1984 with an issue price of $1,340. The production run was supposed to be 2,500 pieces but as with nearly every piece in this line, final production was much more limited. This particular piece had just 540 produced. The underside of the wood base and individual issue number on accompanying certificate states it is #422 of 2,500 only because these pieces were prepared in advance to the actual production of the sculptures. This sculpture features Donald relaxing in his easy chair, feet up on a hassock and reading a copy of Four Color Comics #199, the classic Barks "Sheriff Of Bullet Valley" issue. Three other Barks Four Color Comics are on the floor, issues #108 "Terror Of The River", #178 "Christmas On Bear Mountain", #256 "Luck Of The North." These issues are incredibly detailed in their miniature form with exact cover art/contents clearly identifiable as shown. Sneaking up behind Donald are his nephews, two hold a wrapped present while the other holds a cake reading "1934-1984." Front has scroll reading "Walt Disney Donald's Birthday" and below this on the wood base is "Laurenz" plaque. Does not come with the original box but sculpture is Mint as issued. An extraordinary sculpture which is a must-have for collectors of Donald and Capodimonte, as well as Barks enthusiasts. From the Tomart Archives and comes with COA signed by Tom Tumbusch & Ted Hake.
