Auction #202 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1553 in auction 202
Item Description
1.75" without backpaper but with construction style consistent with the 1896-1898 era. Button features large numeral "1" at its center and includes the name "Clifton House." This was the earliest luxury hotel at Niagara Falls and was established prior to the Civil War. It had a prime location and, in fact, is now the location of Sheraton Niagara Falls hotel. Tourism suffered a major loss when this hotel was destroyed by fire in 1898. While we cannot definitively say this button applies to that hotel everything we can discern points in that direction. Exc. and displays Mint. Only example we've seen.
