Item Description
Beginning sometime in 1896 and probably ending with December 1897 Whitehead & Hoag produced a monthly calendar button. Typically seen in the 1.25" size there are exceptions as we've seen at least one in the 7/8" size and this lot of four includes "October 1897" in the 1.75" size. The reverse of this has tiny nick off the backpaper and a tiny 1/8" cello gap along the collet but not enough to create a noticeable bump on the rim edge when viewed from the front. The three in this group in the 1.25" size, all with their W&H papers, are December 1896 featuring birds on bare tree branch, April 1897 featuring red galoshes appearing beneath huge umbrella, and June 1897 with the calendar surrounded by flowers including a butterfly. These are all quite scarce and these are in gorgeous condition displaying Mint.
