Item Description
We had this same button in Auction #201 and did not expect to see another so soon but it came with a consigned collection of Long Beach buttons, see the following lots #1570-1572. Our previous example exceeded $700.00 and was in outstanding condition although this one is just slightly better by the absence of an air bubble on our earlier example. The button is 2-1/8" with Bastian backpaper in Mint condition with exception of 1/8" hairline edge tear. The button's text reads "Long Beach Festival Of The Sea/Long Beach, Calif./Sept. 1.2.3.4 & 5. 1908." The four largest words of the design are formed by sea snakes with circular heads including tiny facial accents. The scallop shell design encompasses a lovely mermaid with flowing hair covering her breast as she fusses with it having risen from the harbor waters which show a large number of small boats, many with sails, in the background. Celluloid surface has just the most tiny and trivial wear in reflected light. The button is N. Mint and displays Mint with high gloss and perfect centering. One of the most stunning buttons ever produced and this is certainly among the most superb condition one or two examples we have been able to offer over five decades.
