The group was first organized as a sportsman's club and nearly every man in the county joined including Col. William F. 'Buffalo Bill' Cody, who was elected permanent first Vice President. The club went through periods of great activity as well as dormancy and eventually in 1919 a commercial club was organized which evolved into the Cody Chamber of Commerce.
