Item Description
1.5" with no maker's name issued by the "New Minneapolis Morning Tribune" to promote the debut of the comic strip created by writer-artist Will Eisner. This and a less graphic design from the Star Journal newspaper are the only two known early vintage buttons for this historic character. Both are rare as they were distributed in small quantities only in a single city. This example has a pair of circular air dots. There is an 1/8" one to the right of his hat top and a 1/16" one near the letter "C" of "Comes." These tiny marks have just a touch of cloudiness to them but detract very little as they are so small and against the dark red background. The button is stain free and has high gloss. Our last similar example about eight years ago exceeded $800.00. First we've seen since then. Rare.
