Item Description
8.75x11.5" bound volume with 892 consecutively numbered pages. Issues are complete with covers and run from volume 4 #1 January 2nd through volume 4 #26 June 26th. Magazines are promotional, aimed at movie theater owners. Carl Laemmle contents include page 472 and page 673 interviews, page 480 double page ad and ads on pages 502, 538, 578, 618, 658, 698, 738, 740, 778, 818, and 858. Page 740 in June 5, 1909 issue has full page ad with photo and text "Extra Carl Laemmle Becomes A Film Manufacturer, Organizes A New Company To Be Totally Separate From The Laemmle Film Service. Will Make A Tremendous Specialty Of American Subjects." Other contents include printed Ben Turpin letter, several ads for "Summers-Britt" boxing match, Davy Crockett photos and two ads, and full page ad for "The Human Ape Or Darwin's Triumph" movie with chimpanzee dressed in three piece suit as human. Page 236 has nice 1/3 page ad for "Battling Nelson-Joe Gans" 1908 fight film. Issues have numerous ads and photos of equipment and inducement offers for theater owners to get patrons. Outside covers are heavily worn around edges and corners with outside spine seam splits. Covers are covered with cellophane for protection. Page 184 has a clip replacement at upper left, pages 507 and 511 have fingerprints. First few early issues have a bit of margin edge wear with a few cellophane tape repairs in blank areas but overall contents are clean, tight and Fine/VF. Well-done and comprehensive and of historical significance relating to early 20th century motion picture making. Extremely limited distribution.
