Item Description
Vintage wood frame is 12x14.25", without glass, with a high relief wood border around recessed center accented in gold. Gold edge at top has narrow .5" loss plus a little color off the bottom panel. Far right panel has a single small hole showing little. The frame (without wire hanger) holds 8.5x10.5" color portrait with a simulated background texture like canvas. This sheet of paper (or actual canvas) is mounted as made to a very stiff sheet of 1/16" cardboard or the 1868 version of modern fiberboard. At lower left is the date “1868" and name that appears to be “Alph. Bigol.” At far right is “A.L. Weise Philad.” Across bottom is “Entered According To Act Of Congress In The Year 1868 By A. L. Weise & Co. In The Clerk’s Office Of The District Court Of The Eastern District Of Pennsylvania.” We’ve had the panel out of the frame and it has just some general darkening accumulated since 1868. Still an extremely attractive and rare 1868 campaign portrait.
