Item Description
First is 4x9" brochure that opens to 9x16". Front has jugate photos of FDR and Garner. It promotes Baltimore & Ohio Railroad “Special Trains And Fares To Attend The Presidential Campaign/Washington, D.C./March 4, 1933.” Contents include photos of 14 Washington area landmarks. Small handling creases. Clean and VF. Next are a pair of FDR presidential train trip menus. These are from the collection kept by C. A. Penkert, an employee of the Postal Telegraph Co. who traveled on presidential trips throughout the 1930s to facilitate newsmen communicating with their newspapers. Each menu has stiff outer cover and accent cord that holds a two page menu sheet on the interior. Cover of first reads “Trip Of The President To Hyde Park, NY/Pennsylvania Railroad.” Some dust smudges on front and blank reverse has streaks of off-white glue on margins from scrapbook mounting. Very Good. Second menu is 7x10" and cover reads “The President Of The United States Of America And Party/En Route Via The Chicago & Northwestern Railway August 8-9, 1934.” Some lt. tan scattered spots but Fine. Last is “White House” envelope and stationery dated February 5, 1941. The letter is to the man who collected the two menus. Letter is ink signed by "M. A. LeHand" private secretary to FDR and reads “Your Message Of Birthday Greetings Was Especially Pleasing To The President And He Wants You To Know How Grateful He Is For Your Thoughtfulness.” Letter is VF. Envelope shows dust and is VG.
