Item Description
2-1/8" c. 1904 made by Pulver. We know of only two other examples of this outstanding button. The button promotes both the company and product as well as the local fire company. Front text reads "Knox's Gelatine Running Team/Johnstown, N.Y./Compliments Of Tryon Hook & Ladder Co." The chef, naked except for his white hat, holds a gorgeous cut glass platter with tall mold of semi-transparent orange gelatine. Text on a book design behind him reads "'Taint Nun Too Much Cus It's Knox's.'" One of the very earliest buttons to include a premium offer on the backpaper which reads "Any Lady Who Receives This Badge, If She Will Write Me Where She Got It And Inform Me If She Uses KNOX'S GELATINE Or Not, I Will Send Her FREE My Cook Book, "Dainty Desserts For Dainty People" Which Costs 25¢. KNOX'S Is The Purest GELATINE Made. It's Not Like Pie, It's Healthy. Address, KNOX, of Johnstown, N.Y./Button Made By F.F. Pulver Co./Rochester, N.Y." Light wear and a couple small stains on the backpaper. Button's front has extremely light scattering of a few gray age marks on the outer perimeter but overall quite minor and detracting little from the superb color and graphics. VF and a highly sought rarity.
