Item Description
1.5" made by Photo Jewelry Mfg. Co. although this example is missing its backpaper. The example in Auction 200 from the Hake Collection realized nearly $700 and was different from this example in the following ways: That button had a touch of color tinting on the face and this does not. That button had brighter red on his neck scarf. And on that button on close inspection a small book could be seen at the bottom left with text reading "Offices/Union Stockyards/Chicago." On this no trace of a book is shown along the bottom edge. The cowboy's wide-brim floppy hat is inscribed on the front "I Represent Strahorn-Hutton-Evans Com. Company." Lower edge of the button reads "They Sell Live Stock." A few faint scattered scratches in reflected light, the worst of which is a .25" long on the scarf and jacket at lower right. There is also a 1/16" orange thread trapped under the cello at the very top but again showing only on the closest inspection. Button displays Exc. and is the only example we've seen of this variety as the other example was the only one seen of that variety. A great real photo button from the very earliest button-making years.
