Item Description
Each of these is a 1.25" celluloid sheet with a narrow curl holding a piece of cardboard on the reverse. Cardboard has pair of cut-out tabs and through the hole at the center of each tab a straight pin is inserted so that the button can be worn. These were created during the most extreme restrictions regarding the use of metals and each carries the name of the button maker on the curl Bastian Bros. One of the two cardboard tabs on the back of the "No Man" button has come loose but the upper tab still holds the straight pin in position. The first of these in our photo shows Uncle Sam pointing at the viewer with the inscription "Be Alert Don't Get Hurt/America Needs You." Below is the company logo. Second shows explosion graphics with text "If One Man Is Careless - No Man Is Safe." Company logo at center. This firm is famous for their water heaters and boilers but during World War II all production went towards the war effort and by 1945 they had built 4.5 million bomb casings along with thousands of sets of landing gear and propeller blades mostly for the B-25 bomber. Light general wear but both are VF and rare. Morry Greener Collection.
