Auction #203 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1428 in auction 203
Item Description
2-1/8" tall with six brass tabs holding beautifully colored convex celluloid portrait to a flat brass reverse plate with horizontal bar pin. This image of her is taken from a painting by Carl Gustav Ludwig Richter done in 1879. She was often called the "Queen of Hearts" because she impressed those around her with her charm, charisma and friendly personality. Napoleon called her "My Beautiful Enemy." Her premature death in 1810 at the age of 34 lead to a somewhat cult-like adulation that continues today. Last year was the 200th anniversary of her death and she was widely celebrated in Germany for her role in developing a state that adopted reforms essential in the development in a modern society, particularly in the education field. The celluloid is in gorgeous NM condition displaying Mint. Trivial tarnish on the brass reverse.
