Item Description
Black and white felt beanie without tag on interior but this is the premium they advertised as "Two Color Beanie Caps Made Of Felt" for ten cents and two Kellogg's Pep boxtops. Beanie is covered in buttons as well as some small marks and holes where other buttons were either located or moved around. Condition of the felt remains clean and VF. The beanie holds 63 buttons. 55 of these are Pep comic characters along with two duplicates for a total of 57. There are six miscellaneous buttons including a pair of 1.25" picturing Santa Claus, one Red Cross, one small button showing Martin Luther, one German flag button, and one Quaker cereal button showing movie actor William Demarest. Among the 55 Pep buttons are many of the scarcest. The buttons were issued in five series and each included a Superman so the result was 86 different. Those in the fifth series are noticeably scarcer than the others. Among the scarce buttons included on the hat are Mr. Bibbs, Daisy, Flattop, Fat Stuff, Wilmer, Tiny Tim, Uncle Avery, Uncle Bim, Mama De Stross, Gravel Gertie, B.O. Plenty, a second Fat Stuff, Denny, Winnie's Twins, Mac, Abreatha Breez, and a second Daisy. All the named buttons are in at least VF condition and many of these would grade as Exc. The same applies to the unnamed Pep buttons as well as the few miscellaneous buttons. A very nice vintage collection with a total of 57 Pep buttons and an exceedingly reasonable opening bid.
