Item Description
The was the second studio album by Bob Dylan, released in May 1963 by Columbia Records. It reached #22 in the US and later became a number one hit in the UK in 1964. In 2003, the album was ranked #97 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2002, Freewheelin' was one of 50 recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry. This is the rare radio station advance white label promo copy. 12.25x12.25" cardboard album cover contains 33 1/3 rpm record. Front bottom cover has 3x12" applied timing strip marked "Columbia Records Radio Station Service-Not For Resale." This lists 13 song titles/times, four of which are on this strip only, they did not make the record and therefore are not listed on the record labels or back of jacket, both of which have the correct 13 songs that actually appear on this LP. The four "deleted" track titles are: "Rocks And Gravel, Let Me Die In My Footsteps, Gamblin' Willie's Dead Man's Hand, Talkin' John Birch Blues." Trail off matrix numbers are: XLP-58717-3A/XLP-58718-2A. Back of cover has bold "Demonstration Not For Sale" ink stamp. Cover has scattered edge wear but no splits. Lt. soiling to back, front remains glossy. Top edge of timing strip has .5" tear. VG+. The record has very minor surface wear with one notable small scratch on side 2 that does cause a skip but vinyl remains totally bright and shiny. Labels are totally clean. Record has been played on a Music Hall 7.1 turntable and aside from the one noted scratch plays fine, Dylan's distinct vocals shine through as does his harmonica playing. VG+. A true Dylan rarity.
