Item Description
First photo is 7x9" dated February 28 1935 with photo of Thorpe in Native American clothes standing in front of numerous Native Americans. Vintage text paper on reverse notes Thorpe was a leader of "250 American Indians" who held a conference in Los Angeles protesting against Blacks and Mexicans representing themselves as Indians in motion pictures. Second photo is 8.25x8.25" dated March. 29 1953 with image of Thorpe at left as he appeared with the Carlisle Indians in 1912 after kicking a football, and at right shown later in life. Jim Thorpe passed away March 28, 1953 and this photo was obviously used in many newspapers for his obituary. Scattered lt. handling creases and bit of lt. rippling from papers glued on reverse. Both overall VG. Nice images of the football legend.
