Item Description
Many soldiers returning from Cuba in 1898 suffered tropical fevers so the government established the camp for quarantine and recovery in the summer and fall of 1898. This 2x3.5" card has vignette of sunrise, tent and canteen plus "1898" date and banner text "Camp Wikoff (sic) Montauk Point." The card belonged to "H.C. Foley, Sergt. Springfield, Ill./Troop M, Roosevelt Rough Rider, U.S.V." Light crease vertically on right side about .5" from edge. Very clean. Rare.
